Dr. Tracy Vaillancourt, Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in School-Based Mental Health and Violence Prevention, University of Ottawa presents, “The Impact of COVID-19 on Youth Mental Health”, a webinar hosted by PREVNet.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to increases in mental health problems in some children and youth, an area of health that was already in crisis before the pandemic. A recent review on the impact of COVID on youth mental health by Dr. Tracy Vaillancourt demonstrates the need for the Canadian government to prioritize youth mental health in its management of the pandemic and beyond.

Considering these findings, service providers, educators, and caregivers may be looking for guidance in supporting children and youth. In this webinar, Dr. Vaillancourt will discuss the results of this report and provide recommendations to those who work with and care for youth on how to improve youth mental health in Canada.

Objectives:
1. Review of the scope of the problem (youth mental health) before the pandemic
2. Describe the changes to youth mental health during the pandemic
3. Provide recommendations on how to improve youth mental health in Canada
