Webinar Description

In this webinar, we will review the literature about help-seeking behaviours by teens involved in dating violence, and think about ways to increase teens’ help seeking. We will discuss trauma-informed practice, to ensure we communicate with those seeking help in a respectful and empowering manner.  Further, we will explore the role of teachers, guidance counsellors, and other mental health focused staff when it comes to responding to disclosures, in the context of school policy and provincial/territorial legislation. We will highlight the importance of referrals to appropriate mental health service providers, and think about ways to promote collaboration between the education system and clinical settings that address teen dating violence.

Learning Objectives

1) To increase participant’s confidence that they can respond to disclosures of teen dating violence in a trauma-informed way.

2) To increase participant’s knowledge of the scope of their role with respect to disclosures of teen dating violence.

3) To increase knowledge about participant’s local legislative context

The presentation will be followed by a Q and A opportunity for participants.  The presentation will be in English; we will provide the powerpoint slides in both French and English.  We are able to provide you with a Certificate of Completion after you have viewed the webinar.

We invite you to share this link with any of your colleagues that may be interested in attending. For those unable to join us, we will be recording the webinar and sharing this on our website.
